Stay Positive With These 9 Simple Steps

It turns out that seeing the glass half full rather than half empty actually helps fill up your glass.

  • Reduced risk for stroke

Most of us experience a mix of positive and negative emotions every day. Even the most cheerful of us sometimes have to deal with negative emotions. The good news is our emotions and outlook are not set in stone but can be positively shaped by our daily practices and influences. Here are some simple tips for cultivating a positive outlook on life:

  1. Practice meditation
Each of us has the ability to tap into deep and lasting inner peace and happiness within ourselves through meditation. The more we cultivate peace within, the more it radiates throughout our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

  2. Exercise
Exercise is proven to help boost mood and balance out the negative effects of stress.

  3. Surround yourself with positive influences
Listening to uplifting music, having upbeat friends and companions, meditating on uplifting quotes – there are many simple ways we can bring positive influences into our consciousness.

  4. Eat healthfully
Eating nutrient-depleted food makes it hard to stay positive. A plant-based yoga diet based on whole, natural foods is optimal for boosting your outlook, mood, and energy.

  5. Express gratitude
Taking a few minutes each day to express gratitude can make all the difference in the world when it comes to outlook. Try keeping a daily journal and write down three things you are thankful for each day.

  6. Think things through
It’s easier to be positive when we don’t act impulsively. If you are faced with conflict or a lot of stress, try to take a little time to collect yourself and think things through so that you are able to respond effectively, rather than react.

  7. Spend time in nature
Mother Nature has a way of bringing greater harmony to our emotions and minds. Spending time outdoors is a great way to soothe the nerves and promote positive relaxation.

  8. Take a technology vacation
Modern technology has many benefits for helping increase productivity and social connections, but it can also be overly stimulating. Try taking periodic breaks from technology during the day or week for increased mental rejuvenation.

  9. Help others
Reaching out to help others, in little ways or big, is one of the most effective ways to cultivate a positive outlook. It’s hard to beat that feeling when we take the time and energy to show care and compassion to another person and bring a little light to their day.
