Wai Lana Yoga: Goodbye Inertia
Reviewer: Amy Bertrand, POST-DISPATCH HEALTH & FITNESS EDITOR, January 16, 2006
Wai Lana, yoga video darling and longtime host of the PBS series Wai Lana Yoga, is at it again with this yoga video designed to help you get moving.
As usual for her videos, the production quality is top-notch, with Wai Lana doing the poses in front of gorgeous Hawaiian backdrops. For each move she changes locations, as well as her outfit.
The moves themselves are some of the more difficult yoga postures, such as the Plough, in which you lie face up on the ground and then, with your legs straight and together, lift your legs and lower back off the floor, then lower your legs over your head, so your toes are touching the ground beyond your head.

"... an award-winner! Charming, with beautiful scenery. Great for children—but adults who are newcomers to yoga can benefit from this video as well! Great exercises for all ages! What a beautiful tape. It's her best! It's great! It's so sweet with the children. It's great for adults too. For someone just starting out, it can't hurt them. They can't overdo themselves. Tell Wai Lana we loved it."

Wai Lana’s Little Yogis Daydream
Reviewer: Palmetto Parent Magazine (www.palmettoparent.com), January 2006
Wai Lana has hosted her own series on PBS for several years and has released DVDs, CDs, activity books, and yoga equipment under her Little Yogis line. Her new DVD, Daydream, contains a short video to help children relax; games for counting, spelling, and more; and music videos. The video uses soothing imagery of waterfalls, oceans, and animals as it implements a head-to-toe relaxation method to help little children off to sleep during naptime. This is not an exercise video or a rollicking adventure for your children. It is a relaxation video that should be employed during naptime or after a long day when your kids are a little too wound up.

Reviewer: The Dove Foundation, November 16, 2003
Synopsis: Children will enjoy working out with Wai Lana, the world's most-watched yoga teacher. With her warm and personable style, Wai Lana easily inspires her little yogis with a fun game of yoga. She has chosen poses that will entertain and delight children while stretching their growing bodies and muscle groups.
Dove Worldview: Wai Lana's soft, almost purring voice is enough to put most children into a mode of doing what she's showing them in the video. The children are delightful to watch as they stretch their bodies and relax in the sunshine. Cartoon character animals are used quite effectively to get her message across to the children and hold their interest. This is recommended for children 3-8 years of age. I can envision a school/nursery school using this in their curriculum on an ongoing basis.
Content Description: There are no objectionable elements in this video. In the event some parents might find the concept of yoga out of their range of experience, there is nothing of the mystical to be found in this video.
Dove Family-Approved. Suitable for all ages.

Wai Lana’s Little Yogis Daydream DVD Award Review
Reviewer: Film Advisory Board, October 2005
Daydream is an enchanting animated video. Songs of endearment and ancient techniques set the mood for children’s relaxation time to drift into a world of wonderful colorful dreams. It is fascinating. The adorable, humorous creatures (pink elephants that dive, insects that snuggle, dolphins that frolic about, seabirds that soar, castles in the sand, a mouse on a cheese kite, dancing butterflies, hot air balloons, and children at play) are what dreams are made of. Fantasies inspire children. This Daydream DVD inspires fantasies.
The magical Daydream island, with a host of wonderful characters, entertains and educates all in the family to a world of play, relaxation, joy, and friendship in the delightful Little Yogis Daydream video. It is the perfect addition for the family video library.

Over 85 of Wai Lana’s Favorite Juice and Smoothie Recipes
Reviewer: Lyda Whiting, Awareness magazine, March/April 2004
The health benefits of natural antioxidants like vitamins A and C are still being
discovered. While supplements can be useful, the most complete source of vitamins
and minerals is fresh food, especially fruits and vegetables. One of the most
interesting and delicious ways to enjoy the benefits of fresh produce is juicing.
Wai Lana, a well-known yoga instructor with a nationwide PBS television series
and numerous yoga videos to her credit, makes juicing seem easy and delicious
with this appealing book. Over 85 recipes are included, all beautifully illustrated
with luscious photographs. Many of the recipes will appeal to kids as well
as the rest of the family. The pictures alone will entice you into trying these
intriguing combinations. Each recipe includes a list of benefits as well as
ways to boost nutrition and flavor.
There are separate sections for fruit juices, vegetable juices, smoothies,
and desserts. There is even a section on how to use the pulp left over from
juicing, including recipes for patés, vegetarian burgers, and muffins. There
are fact-filled charts on vitamins and minerals, details on finding the best
produce, and on storing your juice, as well as information on supplements and
herbs to add to your juice for taste and added nutrition.
If you have been thinking about adding fresh juices to your life, or if you
are looking for some new and interesting juicing recipes, this is a great book
to explore. While the recipes require a juicer or at least a good blender,
most of the fresh ingredients are readily available in Southern California.
Recommended.

Wai Lana Yoga: Beginners Workout.
Reviewed by Sue Hansen, 43, of Poulsbo.
"This is an easy and good introduction to yoga for someone who has a limited background like me," said Hansen. ... Hansen thought her voice was calm and soothing and her explanations slow and thorough. "She encourages you to go at your own pace and she showed or mentioned alternatives if the poses were too intense. She also mentioned the area of the body each position focused on, such as kidneys, abdominals, or the back." Hansen said the name of each pose displayed in the upper corner was helpful and the music was peaceful ... Overall, Hansen said, "I enjoyed this video, and it is one I would do again."

The Little Yogis kit gives kids an early start at calming down
Reviewer: www.babygadget.com, January 22 2007
One of the biggest challenges with children can be trying to teach them to calm down. Sometimes Luke and Ivy can get so excited about something they just flip out and lose control. Yoga is good for this sort of thing, but how does one get the little ones interested in something that may at first seem boring? I was excited to see someone actually has a product for this: the Little Yogis Kit gives them a sense of ownership over their yoga experience, and everything is easily understood and attractive to children.
The kit comes with stickers, a mat, a poster, a video, and also a tote bag so the kids can carry the whole thing with them. I like the idea of getting them interested in yoga at a young age, and this package is well-rounded and includes a lot of stuff to get the kids jazzed about their new activity. This is a hobby that could last for the rest of their lives, and it's also something you can do together.

Little Yogis Fun Exercise Award Review
Reviewer: Film Advisory Board, October 2005
Fun Exercise has great style for gaining a child’s interest in exercise. Their natural curiosity and joy of mimicking what they see make this book a wonderful educational tool. Poses that simulate stretching like an animal, hovering like a butterfly, moving like a bird, weaving like a cobra, roaring like a lion, being a warrior, standing tall as a tree, a mountain, and other exercises children will love to do are captivating.
Little Yogis Fun Exercise is a colorful, entertaining book that challenges observation, gives meaning to words, and guides children through exercise poses that they will love to perform. This beautiful book will hold a child’s attention and instill good habits for life.

Reviewer: Dove Family Approved Award Review, August 2005
This is a wonderful relaxation DVD for your children. It is filled with colorful pictures, relaxing songs, and fun games. I can admit that it is relaxing because it helped even me relax. It was amazing to me because when my children were small, I would help them relax by telling them a little relaxing story for different parts of the body. Now Wai Lana does the same thing with this lovely DVD, with her soothing voice singing the songs and telling stories. Also added to this are fun games that the kids can play after rest time is over.

A Colorful and Tasty Delight
Reviewer: New Age Retailer Magazine, May/June 2004
Tantalizing is the perfect word to describe both this book and its juice and smoothie recipes. Wai Lana, a popular television yoga instructor, shares her recipes for healthy fruit juices and vegetable juices in this attractive volume.
I have been juicing for years, and this book is excellent. One of my favorite concoctions is Carrot Cake Cooler. With its mixture of carrots, apples, pineapple, ginger, and pumpkin pie spice, this healthy drink really does taste like carrot cake. Lana stresses healthy living and eating throughout the book. I could not find a juice recipe that sounded unappealing. For many of the juices, Lana includes recipes for smoothies and desserts, and she also describes ways cooks can use leftover pulp. I made Lana’s Veggie Hazelnut Burgers using leftover carrot pulp, and they were very tasty. An excellent chart details vitamin functions; symptoms of vitamin deficiency; and the best sources for vitamins.
Fantastically bright and colorful photographs fill every page, giving the book exceptional eye appeal. The cover image reflects the book’s strikingly bold color scheme and will display well. The celebrity of the ever-smiling Lana also will boost sales. The book makes a wonderful gift for people who want to transition to healthier eating; who already are eating in a healthy way; and who prepare food for children.

Top 15 Toys for Kids
Reviewer: Canadian Parents Online, November 2003
Something for everyone on your list
With so many toys to pick from at this time of year, it is hard to know where
to start. Do we buy the latest fads, or do we encourage our children to fill
their lists with the kind of toys we think will last long past the Christmas
holidays and into the new year? A good combination of the two is the way to
go—especially if the "fad" is a toy you know will still be in the mix the
day after Christmas.
To help you find some of the best toys of the season, we played, we talked,
we listened, and we explored. The result is a list of toys we think you will
find helpful. Not only are many of these items heirloom toys that are meant
to be played with, but toys to encourage development and family fun.
And now for the 2003 Canadian Parents Online Top 15 Toys for kids ...
The Little Yogis Kit
Even though yoga has been practiced for the past five thousand years, its popularity
has been exploding during the past few years. So it makes perfect sense that
children are turning on to yoga too!
Wai Lana, the Number One yoga teacher in the world, has created a one-hour exercise
video called LITTLE YOGIS specifically for children. The Little Yogis Kit includes
the video, a foam floor mat, a poster showing various simple asana poses and
stretches, and a colorful tote bag with shoulder strap.
Age: Children
Parent Talk
Our daughter received the Little Yogis Kit for her birthday. She was so excited
to have her own tape and mat. The quality of the mat is better than the one
I use, and the tape provides a lot of good instruction, at a child's level.

Wai Lana’s Favorite Juices
Reviewer: Alaska Wellness, March/April 2005
This is a beautiful book with bright, colorful, full-page photographs of every single fruit juice, vegetable juice, and smoothie recipe that is presented. The type is large and easy to read, and each open page offers both photograph and recipe so that it’s easy to see exactly what you are making. In fact, the photos are so clear and lovely that it’s hard to decide if this should be a coffee table book or one for the kitchen.
Some of the tempting recipes include: Mango Berry Fusion (mango, raspberries, lime juice, and milk), Singer’s Cider (pineapple, pear, lemon, ginger, and cayenne), Evening Calm (cucumber, celery, lettuce, apple, and basil leaves), Carotene Dream (carrots, kale, and green onion), and the unusual Quiet Thyme (sweet potato, carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, sunflower sprouts, and thyme). There are also some sassy smoothie treats, such as Brownie Shake (using carob), Berry Explosion (using protein powder and fresh ginger root), and Silken Strawberry Whip (papaya, strawberries, avocado, maple syrup, and milk).
The book includes an introductory section on vitamins, minerals, natural supplements, spices, and herbs, along with ways to include these in the various recipes for extra healing. There is also a section on desserts (Pineapple Cashew Mousse, Mango Pudding) and “pulp possibilities” (using pulps to make muffins, patés, and soups or, as Wai Lana notes, “nothing goes to waste in my kitchen”). In addition, every recipe includes a note as to the healthy benefits you are receiving by enjoying your drink. Bottoms up!

Wai Lana's Favorite Juices
Reviewer: Austin Fit magazine, April 2004
Wai Lana, already recognized as a popular yoga instructor, has now taken her healthy living knowledge out of the yoga studio and into the kitchen. Her book, Wai Lana’s Favorite Juices, contains tips on the health benefits of fruits and vegetables, displays charts of essential vitamins and minerals, and includes more than 80 recipes for drinks, smoothies, and desserts.
Lana insists that the addition of fruit and vegetable juices to a diet brings benefits such as improved health, vitality, sleep, increased stamina, stress reduction, decreased cancer risk, elimination of toxins, improved digestion, weight loss, and a more youthful appearance.
“Fresh fruits and veggies provide essential vitamins and minerals that act as antioxidants. Antioxidants (vitamins A, C, and E) help protect our bodies from cell damage caused by overexposure to sunlight, pollutants in the air and water, toxins and additives in our food supply, nicotine, alcohol, and radiation coming from various objects in our environment,” she says. “Antioxidants rejuvenate your skin, help lower cholesterol, energize your body, and keep your mind alert.”
Through this book, readers are taught to “appreciate the connection between the food choices we make and the health we experience. Quality nutrition and self-control are both an essential part of a yoga diet and lifestyle. So whether you’re fasting, trying to lose weight, or just getting healthy, a juicing habit can curb your appetite and make a yoga lifestyle easy, energizing, and delicious.”
An appealing part of the book is the emphasis Lana places on proper nutrition for the family. For example, she introduced a diet of juices to her children while they were still young.
“Naturally, my family and yours fare best—physically, emotionally, and mentally—when [their] bodies are properly nourished. Proper nourishment also curbs cravings for overly processed, fatty foods that produce low energy, poor health, and, ultimately, disease.”
On the recipe pages, Lana not only lists the ingredients for each drink or dessert, but also includes the benefits of the juice and the best times of year to purchase the fruits and vegetables. A “boost” option or additive, such as wheat grass or bee pollen, also can give the drink an extra nutritious kick.
“One of the fastest, easiest ways to replenish vitamins, minerals, and enzymes and undo the damage caused by poor eating habits is to drink the juice of fresh fruits and vegetables. In fact, on an empty stomach, fresh juice can be absorbed into the bloodstream and start renewing your energy within 15 minutes,” says Lana.
Not only do Wai Lana’s recipes sound delicious, but the colorful photographs of the different drink and dessert options practically pop off the page, making your mouth water. One of my personal favorite juice recipes was the Mango Milk. Blend 1 to 2 cups of milk with 1-1/2 cups of mango and in less than five minutes you’ll have a super smoothie!
Wai Lana will soon be releasing another book, Natural Kitchen. To find out more about her or her books, visit www.wailana.com.

Reviewer: SanityCentral.com, November 2003, January 20, 2004
It's no secret that the fitness staple of the
Hollywood set—YOGA—has swept the general adult populace. Once the domain
of lithe lovelies like Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, and Jennifer Aniston, yoga classes
are springing up as quickly as Starbucks franchises, and people are running to
them like lemmings to the sea, or rather like downward dogs to the mat.
That there are also endless videos available for those who wish to achieve their
inner peace and awkward positions in the privacy of their own homes is no surprise.
I was, however, a bit skeptical when a children's yoga video made its way to our
review desk. Children? YOGA? Right, I thought—the only way a child
is going to stay interested is if the instructor is SpongeBob SquarePants!
With apologies to both Wai Lana and SpongeBob—was I ever wrong.
Using my own three children as yogi guinea pigs, I popped the video in after school. Clad in comfy clothes and bare feet, we hit the PLAY button and began ...
Wai Lana—an accomplished instructor and star of the world's most-watched
yoga television series—has combined the elements of animation, music, rhyme,
participation, and fun in this highly enjoyable video. Surrounded by children,
against a tropical background of surf, sun, and palm trees, Wai Lana's quiet yet
commanding voice leads both children and adults through one position to another.
Yes, I said adults. I was right there between my kids, totally enjoying achieving
and holding each pose. We all giggled together as we became balloons, bridges,
and even trees. When the video was over, the girls all chorused their approval
and something even more surprising—a desire to do it again the next day.
Since that first day, Little Yogis has become the afternoon staple in our home.
Forget Nickelodeon—we are NickelYOGIing!
Their gymnastics instructors have pointed out increased balance and stretching
abilities in each of my girls, and their soccer coaches have noted increased stamina
and coordination. I have noted an increased sense of calm and well-being (in ALL
of us)—not to mention a wonderful afternoon date with my children each day.
So give your children the gift of health, harmony, and a heck of a great alternative to just sitting and watching TV! Would make a great holiday gift for ages 3 to 8!

Top Pick.
Reviewer: EdutainingKids.com, November 2003
We can all benefit from some techniques to reduce tension in our lives—even
our kids. The recent popularity of the timeless art of yoga is proving itself
to be more than just a fad. Wai Lana, a master yoga instructor who has her own
PBS series, teaches children some yoga basics in Wai Lana's Little Yogis,
a mesmerizing video that has proven very fashionable with our kid testers. We've
owned the video for approximately a month, and my own children pop it in almost
daily after school. They love learning the different poses, especially the ones
in which they "become" animals.
The video's customized yoga exercises are explained and demonstrated by Wai Lana,
and a group of children follow along. Happily, the kids are quite natural and
don't always perform perfectly—they look like they are having fun. Animations,
and often songs, introduce each new activity and pose, such as Making Cake, Relaxation
Pose, and Daydream Pose. Kids trumpet like elephants, blow an imaginary flute,
and roar like a lion as they learn to get in touch with their bodies and their
minds. There are plenty of opportunities to practice balance and coordination.
The camel vignette begins with a special stretch as Wai Lana discusses camels
with the kids. The Roly-Poly Bear pose involves lying down on the back and rolling
slowly from side to side. Kids pretend to be a bear getting ready for his big
sleep—hibernation. This exercise would be an excellent pre-bed exercise
for kids—it allows kids to stretch and relax as the pose loosens the neck and
strengthens the stomach. Helpful tips for better living are included in addition
to general suggestions for getting the most out of yoga. The video is available
as a stand-alone product or in a kit along with a sponge yoga mat, video tote,
and a colorful poster.
The basic yoga poses help children (and any adult following along!) release
tension, strengthen their growing bodies, improve their balance, and develop coordination.
We are thrilled with the video and feel it belongs in every family's home. Both
the physical and musical backdrops create a relaxing mood and setting, although
the video is not without its share of fun. Children can do a yoga dance, roar
like a lion, and bake an imaginary cake, for example. Outstanding!

Here at KidsAndKaboodle.com we get quite a few products sent to us for review on the site. Recently we received a product that I was very excited about. It's Wai Lana's Little Yogis Kit for children. The kit includes a children's yoga mat, Little Yogis video, asana poster with different exercises, and a cute tote to store everything.
I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I first looked at the video in the box, so I put it to the test with my 5-year-old son. We absolutely loved it!!!! We both did the entire hour-long video that night. The video is broken down into many different exercises, each introduced by an adorable, catchy animation. Wai Lana does an excellent job of keeping children's attention while showing them some great exercise in the process. One rainy day I decided to take the video to work (I teach preschool to 16 three-year-olds). We broke the children up into groups of five and did the video. I couldn't believe how interested they were in watching and participating!
I was so thrilled with Little Yogis that I emailed the company and told them how much I liked their product. They kindly supplied us with three yoga kits to give away for the next three months! Little Yogis is targeted for children ages 3 to 8 years old, but I have to say I think I enjoyed it as much as they did! The Little Yogis Kit would make a great holiday gift for any child.

"Little Yogis" Introduces Children to Yoga
Reviewer: Metro Augusta Parent, November 2003
In the last few years, yoga has become a mainstream exercise trend, with exercise studios cropping up in even small-town America and yoga instructional videos filling the shelves of even big-box retail giants. So it was just a matter of time before the kids asked to play, too. Wai Lana, one of the best-known yoga instructors in the world, has released a new video, Wai Lana's Little Yogis, which is a real treat. Children learn yoga positions through play, pretending to be lions, bridges, cobras, bears, and trees, coached by Wai Lana's soothing voice and contagious enthusiasm. Most enjoyable are the children in the video, who act, well, just like kids. They make occasional mistakes, sometimes get distracted by other things around them, and make this a charming way to introduce your family to yoga. Adult beginners may also appreciate this fun approach to stretching and strengthening the body.

Wai Lana is a master yoga instructor who has had her own PBS series for many years. In this video she teaches kids yoga basics that will help your child stay fit and also provide them with a means of relaxation they can use for the rest of their life. The video is full of animations and songs that assist in demonstrating the various yoga techniques featured. Through these poses kids can practice being a multitude of different animals, which will not only engage their creativity, but also provide a fun way of practicing balance and coordination as well as releasing tension and strengthening their bodies. The Roly-Poly Bear pose will be especially helpful for those times when parents have difficulty getting their kids to bed. Kids will be able to pretend being a bear going into hibernation, which allows them to stretch and relax so that they can get the most restful sleep possible. The video combines informative information with all-out fun activities that will keep your child entertained for years to come.

Wai Lana’s Playful Yoga Video Is a Good Introduction for Kids
Reviewer: St. Louis Post-Dispatch, September 29, 2003
Wai Lana, longtime host of the PBS series Wai Lana Yoga, designed this program to bring the body-toning benefits of yoga to kids, with just enough fun to keep them interested.
The video begins with a question-and-answer session with questions only kids would ask, such as “What if I have to go pee-pee?” during the workout.
Then an animated segment introduces each move with a catchy song, sung by Wai Lana. After that we see Wai Lana surrounded by children in a park with the ocean in the background, teaching them the moves and doing them several times so the children can perfect them.
Wai Lana teaches in a very interactive way; for instance, she has kids blow up a balloon and slowly let the air out of it to show them how to breathe correctly while doing the poses.
This playful workout has kids pretending to be cobras, bears, butterflies, and beetles as they stretch and strengthen their growing bodies.
As we hear more reports of the growing obesity of children, it seems important to get kids moving in any way possible. Wai Lana’s Little Yogis is a great way to introduce fitness to your kids.

Worried about your kids becoming unhealthy couch potatoes? Give them an early start in yoga with Wai Lana's Little Yogis. The PBS host has released an hour-long tape that serves as a fun introduction to yoga techniques, perfect for parents to do with their kids. (It's also available as part of a Little Yogis Kit that includes a yoga mat and poster.)
The video takes viewers through several poses, many based on animals (a kid favorite). But just because it's for kids doesn't mean it's easy. Parents following along should take Wai Lana's advice early in the tape to heart: Don't overstretch, and if it hurts, don't do it. Remember this when trying the Camel, Bow, and Roly-Poly Bear especially (I speak from experience).
Wai Lana doesn't just teach positions, she also engages viewers and the kids in the video with her questions and interesting tidbits (the Lion supposedly will help stave off a cold). Find it at www.wailana.com. GRADE: A-

First Impressions
Reviewer: TD Monthly, February 2006
The colorful packaging attracts the eye and gives a good idea of the kind of fun, cheerful music inside. The CD of 12 catchy songs comes with a cartoon songbook filled with lyrics so children can sing along.
Playability
I took the CD to my arts classroom last week and so far it is the only CD that we have used through the whole week. The children are 4 years old and just love every single song. They don’t want to listen to any other CD. It is fun to listen to the songs while at the same time learning about animals and trees.
Recommendation
This is a great CD for teachers to use in their classrooms, or for parents to share with their children.

This colorful book and CD set includes twelve songs that will have children singing and moving along to the bouncy rhythms and catchy lyrics. Children will be having fun while learning simple safe breathing and relaxation exercises and practicing simple yoga moves.
Children will bounce, giggle, and move through a lively adventure that has them becoming a cat, a dog, and a cobra. They will roar like a lion, build a bridge with their body, and rock on their backs like a stuck beetle. The journey takes children through the jungle, the mountains, and the beach as they move to the music.
The first ten songs are bouncy and silly, while the last two songs are relaxing and calm, encouraging peaceful visualization and rest. Fans of Wai Lana, the popular host of the PBS series Wai Lana Yoga, will recognize some of these songs from her other Little Yogis videos and CDs. Her distinctive voice sings each song and invites children to join in the movements.
The songs are fun to listen to even without moving along. The book has all of the words, encouraging young readers to follow along, while younger children will enjoy the bright illustrations of smiling caterpillars and colorful animals.

Real Rest and Relaxation
Reviewer: Derek, Amazon.com, February 11, 2004

Hi y'all,
I really enjoyed Wai Lana's Rest and Relax cd. It brought me to a greater relaxation and peace that I never experienced before. In the beginning part we did a deep breathing and vocal exercise called Gauranga meditation as well as a another relaxation exercise named Yoga Nidra. Wai Lana's voice was so soothing, it was just relaxing listening to her as she instructed me through the exercises. The Gauranga vocal vibrations really caused a relaxing inner peace within me that I really missed when I was not doing it in other parts of my daily routine. Sometimes I found myself spontaneously practicing the relaxing Gauranga meditation throughout different times of the day. I am writing in because I am getting a lot of positive vibes from this cd and I have even ordered the other ones related to this one, which I can't wait to get.

Eclectic Mix of Soothing, Harmonious Music!
Reviewer: Bugs "Patrick", Amazon.com, April 25, 2005

I saw Wai Lana on a PBS show for kids and Yoga where I got just a tidbit of her beautiful music, but enough to want to hear more. I came to amazon.com and listened to every music sample on this CD- it hooked me! I was going to review this CD right off the samples, but thought I had better get the CD first in the remote chance that it was just too good to be true and there might be some less than desirable cuts- like so many other albums that are fluffed and salted with ho-hum fillers.
I needn't have worried about hearing the whole album before reviewing it. It is a soothing, beautiful, lofty, fine mix of several music genres, i.e., Oriental, Indian, Western light rock with some light vocals and nature sounds included here and there. Pardon this perhaps cliché or cheeky comment, but it truly is uplifting, "feel-good" stuff!
As another reviewer intimated, it is not repetitive and linear like many other meditative music albums. Rather, it structurally, yet gently moves around while retaining the connective thread of gentle, flowing, and harmonic sound.
Undecided? Just try the sample cuts available here and then check out all the other 5-star reviews- I concur with them and since I usually only post reviews on what I consider is 5-star offerings, this is worth sharing . Thank you, Wai Lana and Sidha!

"Rest and relaxation are essential to our well-being no matter how old we are," says Wai Lana, "and learning to relax when you’re young will stay with you for the rest of your life."
I agree 100 percent.
Here is the perfect quiet-time video for your pre-schooler. In fact, I think Little Yogis is a great way to introduce ancient relaxation techniques to the whole family. Songs and soothing pictures are used to help kids stretch, breathe, and relax. The pace, the visuals, and the music are all in harmony to help little ones settle down or even slip into sleep.
This is a step-by-step guide, but does not come off as rote; the lessons seem natural and easy. The DVD can be a soothing relaxation tool for families and a great resource for caregivers.

To be serenaded at naptime, the Little Yogis Daydream CD has no equal. An ancient relaxation technique that sets the mood for a child to drift into a quiet place of wonder and enchantment, of the ocean, warm sand, and seabirds aloft in the sky that emotes peace and security, it is inspiring. The beautiful lullaby, the haunting melody, the rhythmic sounds of the ocean waves, and the gentle song “Wake Up, Sleepyhead” that guides a child into a wakeful state, then swells into a fast-paced tune, are perfect.
The second track Little Yogis Daydream CD is enchanting. An ancient relaxation technique that guides a child into a peaceful rest during naptime with soothing music and a gentle wakeup tune, it is a wonderful tool to help a restless child gain rest. All the family will love the Little Yogis Daydream CD and Daydream DVD. They go together.

Wai Lana's Little Yogis: Daydream
Reviewer: EdutainingKids.com, May 2005
"I relax my body,
I relax my mind;
I forget my troubles,
In my daydream time."
We're thrilled with this new animated Wai Lana Little Yogis DVD. It's perfect for luring children to sleep in a mind-and-body healthy manner. It's also ideal for older children who are past the napping phase but who could benefit from a restful break. "Little bodies work and play all day long, it's time for a rest!" Wai Lana tells little ones in her distinctively soothing and heavily accented voice.
Wai Lana's Little Yogis: Daydream is filled with colorful yet soothing animated images and songs. It incorporates basic yoga relaxation principles and instructions into the narration as well. Children are encouraged to lie down in a "safe and warm" place, put their hands on their bellies, and perform a basic breathing technique. Then, little viewers are told to close their eyes and relax each part of their bodies—their toes, their necks, and even their teeth!
Once in this relaxed state, they go to a "special place" in their imaginations—to the beach, where they listen to the waves and to Wai Lana's comforting voice. They "lie down on the nice, warm sand," listen to a little yoga song, and enjoy a dreamy, non-narrated interlude. If they're still awake, kids watch animated children and animals travel underwater and ride a hot air balloon. A humorous little frog demonstrates some of the activities.
Technically, kids should close their eyes as they relax each part of their body, but at least the first couple of times they watch the video, their eyes will be glued to the mesmerizing imagery on the screen: lilies, mountains, beaches, seabirds flying by, and a pink and white sky will keep their eyes open. A wake-up song concludes the video.
Other features of the DVD include the option for English or Spanish subtitles (note that the DVD's audio is English only), some playful games, and the ability to jump directly to favorite songs.
Parents of young children will love adding this fabulous DVD to their collection. It offers unique and good-for-you relaxation techniques and imagery in a warm, loving, kid-friendly setting. Beautifully done and highly valuable!

Our Rating: A+

How could yoga not appeal to the curious child? Fun, safe, and convenient, the kit provides everything a little yogi needs to get started on the path to a long, healthy life, including a 30-minute DVD, a kid-size yoga mat illustrated with cartoon yogis, a yoga mat bag with an extra pocket for water and snacks, and a full-color cartoon poster with 21 exercises.

Wai Lana, who has her own show on PBS, brings her unique style of yoga to a new video made especially for beginners. The moves aren't exactly yoga poses you may have seen before; they are more like poses mixed with stretches and toning moves.
The production quality on this video is top-notch. For each asana, or pose, the camera moves to a different scene—sometimes it's Wai Lana in front of a waterfall, sometimes it's on a beach, sometimes it's in a desert. Each time, of course, she's in a different outfit.
The moves are not challenging, but they require some flexibility. In one, she sits on the ground, with one leg bent (foot flat on the floor) and one lifted off the floor at a 45-degree angle; she then bends at the waist so her hand touches the heel of her extended foot, making for a tough hamstring stretch. Other moves require some endurance, such as a series of slow crunches she does near the end.
Wai Lana is known in the yoga world for her soothing voice and her great instruction. Here, she doesn't waste time moving from pose to pose or overexplaining things, which means that in just 35 minutes you get a lot done.
The video ends with a three-minute relaxation section. The screen shows beautiful scenery, and you listen to soothing music while you try to "quiet your mind."
The DVD holds some great extras. You can view the asanas one at a time and learn a little more about them, such as hints on how to do them correctly and what each does for your body. You can also put the asanas in a different order to customize your own workout.

Playful Video Yoga Class for Children: Wai Lana, host of the long-running PBS series Wai Lana Yoga, has created a 60-minute video for children. Her young students cheerfully move as she does—stretching, lengthening their spines, and having fun all the while. The video is part of a kit that includes a child-size yoga mat, a colorful bag for water and snacks, and a poster depicting 21 yoga positions. Striking poses a bit more actively and imaginatively than adults do in yoga class, the children (between the ages of 3 and 8) join Lana in becoming the outward equivalent of a butterfly, a cobra, a tree, a tail-wagging dog that changes into a Halloween cat, a bear, an elephant, and other intriguing creatures from nature.

Lions, and Camels, and Elephants ... Oh my! If your house, like mine, can feel like a zoo, then you’ll love Wai Lana’s Little Yogis Kit. With this playful workout, kids will pretend to be cobras, bears, butterflies, and bridges as they stretch and strengthen their bodies, sharpen their minds, and improve their balance and coordination.
Little Yogis is designed for children three to eight years old and teaches the basics of yoga through demonstration and cartoons. The 60-minute video comes complete with a child-sized yoga mat, a tote with an extra pocket for water and snacks, and a large, full-color cartoon poster depicting all of the 21 poses from the video.
I tried this video out on my daughters Zoe, age 4, and Estie, age 2. (Tip #1: Never try to watch and review a video for the first time with both kids in the room!) Zoe took to the video immediately. Wai Lana’s description and the children’s demonstrations were very easy to follow and understand. The cartoons and songs in between were a creative way to break up the poses and keep kids interested. The girls loved the first pose “Balloon Belly” and the second pose “Butterfly,” but pose #3 “The Mountain” brought the video to a crashing halt when Estie decided it would be fun to topple Mt. Zoe and steal her yoga mat! (Tip #2: Two kids and one mat is never a good idea!) After making a “special” mat of blankets for Estie, the rest of the video was smooth sailing.
I, and most importantly, the girls, love this video. It has become one of our favorites. It is recommended for children ages three to eight, but my two-year-old really enjoys it as well. Estie only made it about halfway through and needed some help positioning her body but otherwise did just fine. I have found that it also helps calm my girls down and has improved Zoe’s ability to focus. I also took the kit to their playgroup and every mother wanted to know where to get one.
Wai Lana is one of the foremost personalities in the world of yoga whose television series is seen by millions of viewers on five continents. Wai Lana’s Little Yogis Kit is fun, challenging, and a great first step toward lifelong health and well-being—all without the kids even realizing they’re exercising. While you’re teaching the kids about exercise, teach them about the benefits of yoga. Wai Lana, host of the PBS series Wai Lana Yoga, has introduced the Little Yogis Kit designed for children ages 3 to 8. Featured is a 60-minute video with Wai Lana and several little yogis pretending to be cobras, bears, butterflies, bridges, trees, bows and arrows, and lots of other fun things as they perform various yoga asanas. The kit also includes a kid-size yoga mat with little cartoon yogis in action; a colorful, sturdy mat bag complete with an extra pocket for water and snacks; and a large, full-color cartoon poster with 21 yoga exercises. SWEAT tried out the kit on a 4-year-old and a 7-year-old and it was a fun thing to do, although the 4-year-old was as interested in watching as doing. Beautifully done
Reviewer: Vegetarian Baby & Child, April 2004
Wai Lana may be best known for her grace and beauty on her self-titled yoga program shown on the Wisdom Network. Now, she has not only created a yoga program for children, she's also written a beautiful collection of juice recipes suitable for lacto-vegetarians and vegans.
Besides having bright colorful photography throughout, this new book is informative and full of more than 80 creative recipes. Wai Lana offers readers nutritional information, tips on produce selection, storage information, ideas to boost the nutritional potential of the recipes, information on spices and herbs, recipes for fruit juices, vegetable juices, smoothies, and desserts along with recipes for using pulp. It is a complete resource for anyone interested in learning more about juicing or looking for new inspiration.
The vast majority of the recipes are vegan, and those that aren't are easily converted. Of the recipes we've tried, our favorites include Tropical Ambrosia, Berry Mango Bliss with soymilk, Carrot Cake Cooler, Summer Crush, and Fall Harvest.
This book is beautifully done and would look great on any coffee table. I prefer to keep mine in the kitchen. It really has become one of our favorite recipe books in this smoothie-crazy home.

More than 15 percent of Americans ages 6 to 19 are overweight, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Author Lizzy Rockwell writes, "The number of seriously overweight children in the United States has tripled in the past 20 years." [One primer] that could help reverse the trend:
Wai Lana's Little Yogis: Fun and Healthy Yoga, ages 3 to 8
Wai Lana has had success with yoga video instruction for adults, but now she turns her attention to youngsters. Shot at O'ahu's Ko Olina Resort, the exercises start with lying on your back, relaxing, and focusing on your breathing. Children are asked to imagine their belly to be a balloon, filling up and releasing air.
After the warmup comes the Butterfly. Feet together, bouncing your knees, imagine you are a butterfly, fluttering from flower to flower. The Tree requires balancing on one leg—not easy for some, as evidenced in our own living room and among the children in the video. Wai Lana recommends leaning against a wall for support. Meantime, she shares a thought to consider: "Think of how tolerant a tree must be. Birds nest in it, animals scratch against its bark, children sometimes play in tree houses built between their branches. We should strive to be as tolerant as a tree."
Animated characters and brief cheerful songs kick off each of the exercises, about 10 in all. By the end of the 30-minute program, children and adults will feel peaceful and relaxed. A wonderful option for settling the mind and body before bedtime.

My 6-year-old daughter had no interest in any of the yoga videos I purchased for her in the past—that is, until Wai Lana's Little Yogis. This video is full of magic with Wai Lana's lovely personality, fun songs, and cartoons. It is unlike any other children's yoga video I've seen before. Now she loves doing yoga as long as she can do it with Wai Lana!!!

A friend bought the Little Yogis video for my daughter for Christmas. She loves it, and I really enjoy watching it too. Such a sweet way to entertain and educate kids! There should be more like this. I thought it was the best.

Little Yogis is a charming and fun yoga video. Some friends got it for their three kids, and all the kids have fun doing yoga with it. The 5-year-old boy loves it so much he gets his own mat out to do it by himself. The beautiful scenery, happy music, and smiling Wai Lana make this kid yoga video exceptional. I've seen a couple of other kiddie yoga videos, and this is so much better I highly recommend it. I'm going to get it for my grandchildren.

Yoga Video Puts Kids on Path to Lifelong Fitness
"Feel like doing something a little different? Not something we typically feature?"
This was the email that I received from the editors of ADVANCE recently.
What? A pediatric yoga video? What interest would physical therapists and PT assistants have in that? Surprisingly, this video MAY interest you.
Yoga is a Hindu discipline aimed at training the consciousness for a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. Yoga is also a system of exercises practiced as part of this discipline to promote control of the body and mind.
Wai Lana's Little Yogis is aimed at teaching basic yoga exercises to children.
According to her website, Wai Lana is a modern-day yoga advocate, a highly energetic
artist, and one of the most well known yoga teachers in the world today.
She has published several books on yoga, recorded musical albums in a variety of different styles, and produced and hosted nearly 200 half-hour television programs of yoga instruction.
In this 60-minute video, Wai Lana uses a combination of cartoons and real-life action to introduce children and their families to a playful, creative, and fun yoga workout. There is a prologue of basic questions and answers about yoga that is handled with soft, colorful cartoons. Then each section preceding each different yoga pose is again introduced with the cartoon format.
In her workout group, there are nine children from ages 3 to 10. Wai Lana encourages the children to pretend to be cobras, bears, butterflies, and bridges as they stretch and strengthen their bodies. The children have no trouble following Wai Lana's instructions and are really enjoying the exercises.
The children use yoga mats and work out on a beautiful expanse of lawn with a sandy beach and scenic rolling surf in the near background. They are pictured at the picturesque Ko Olina Resort in Oahu, HI.
As Wai Lana likens each pose to something that the children are familiar with, she incorporates information on what the activity is doing to facilitate the body with breathing, strengthening, balance, conditioning, and the like.
How could PTs and PTAs use this video at work, at home, or to benefit their children?
It would be a natural for pediatric therapists to incorporate some of the yoga activities into their routines. It could then become a mainstream activity that many children could do with peers and siblings. It could be done in physical education classes.
Therapists who work in outpatient facilities might be able to have a program for children who accompany parents to treatment. The video is so self-explanatory that most children could do the yoga without direct supervision.
Gyms and fitness facilities also could have a program for children who accompany parents to treatment.
Parents who homeschool could add this to their endeavors. After-school clubs could use the routines.
Wai Lana's yoga exercise videos have had success in increasing the appreciation of the beauty and benefits of the ancient art of yoga, and have played a significant part in the recent substantial growth in the popularity of yoga.
The field of physical therapy is increasingly striving to promote the pursuit
of wellness endeavors. Wai Lana's Little Yogis is a playful way to get
kids into yoga exercises, to begin to teach healthy habits that will improve their
strength, balance, and coordination, and to sharpen their minds as Wai Lana shares
the ancient, timeless technique of yoga.
