Yoga Sound Meditation with Breathing

You can also practice this technique sitting comfortably, either on the floor, in a chair, or on the couch. We recommend that you watch or practice along with me, at least for the first few times you do it.

  1. Lie down comfortably on your back. Separate your legs and let your feet fall outward. Become aware of your breath. As you inhale, mentally say to yourself, “I am aware I am inhaling.” As you exhale, mentally say to yourself, “I am aware I am exhaling.”
  2. After a minute or two, say out loud “Aum Hari Aum” for the length of each exhalation. Focus your attention on this soothing sound. Let it wash over you and through you like a gentle waterfall.

As you say it aloud, listen to it carefully as it emanates from your mouth. Feel it vibrate in your throat and on your tongue, lips, and face as you repeat it.

With each inhalation, mentally say to yourself “Aum Hari Aum” for the length of the inhalation. With each exhalation, repeat this Yoga Sound out loud.

Rest your heart and mind in the soothing waters of Yoga Sound and let it wash away all your stress, worry, and anxiety.

Hints

  • Sometimes you may like to practice Yoga Sound meditation simply by listening and not repeating. For example, if you are practicing with my video or CD, you can just immerse your mind and heart in the Yoga Sound.
  • You can practice this technique by itself whenever you like; it also a great way to end your yoga asana session.
